Neo-Tribal Classes

Neo-Tribal Belly dance is a stylized fusion with an innovative twist. Its basis is American Tribal Style Bellydance, which traces its origins here in the US within the last 30-40 years. Unlike the Egyptian Cabaret style which many have experienced in restaurants and clubs, Tribal Bellydance is a group oriented dance. The moves, costumes, & music are inspired by, and borrowed from many different cultures, but the expression is uniquely our own.

We try and always remember the main reason why it is we bellydance - to have fun dancing with others. It's also a great way to get some non-impact exercise without going to the gym. So don't be shy - all fitness levels and body shapes are encouraged to attend!

We have a lot of fun in class and everyone is encouraged to be creative. A light hearted Chorus, done at every class, is the place to come together & support each other & what is happening in the center. The use of Zaghareets or appropriate sounds in encouraged. This is a perfect place to practice what you've worked on in class.

Beginner 1 - The Basics-Posture, Moves, Strengthening. This level is meant to help the new student attain a solid foundation of the basic movements, and to increase flexibility and strength. All students new to Neo-Tribal Style should begin at this level.

Beginner 2 - Variations, Moving & Turning, Introduction to Zils & Chorus. There is a lot to learn at this level, and it is an excellent review for more advanced dancers.

Turkish - Intermediate
Kristnh's class -  Her recent trips to Turkey brings us all some juicy Turkish moves & ideas!  Come check her out...

Intermediate  - Branching into Neo-Tribal Theories, Expressive Gestures, More Variations, Combinations, Partnering & Floorwork As students begin to master the variations, they also tune into keeping their minds open to new ideas. We begin to experiment with Neo-Tribal modifications, and combinations.

Advanced - Self-expression, Stamina, Complex Combinations & Solos. Everything at this level is infused with Neo-Tribal! The combinations are more challenging, and we work on improving our stamina.

Tribal Jam! - Come play - we'll work on lots of chorus, formations, transitions, zils and more. Taught by Jane Archer

Props - This class focuses on the many props used in Neo-Tribal Belly Dance. Veil, Zils, Sword, Basket, Floorwork & other topics.

What to wear: A loose elastic waist skirt works great. Wear a top that is either short or tight so you can see the movement in your torso. A jog bra works just fine. We dance barefoot. You will see what the other dancers wear, and may be inspired to create your own personal costumes. The Euphoria Bazaar offers everything you could possibly need to get in the mood to dance! For the Ballet for Belly Dancers class, please wear leggings, a hip scarf, & a choli.

Vicki Winchester

A belly dancer since 1997, Vicki remembers twirling around the living room even as a child while other kids watched cartoons! Besides her love of dancing, she is married with 5 children and 7 grandchildren. Vicki has spent over 20 years in music ministry for her church, and has been a hairdresser since 1968. "I'm so thankful to my dancing mentors and sisters for keeping me young at heart".

Mary Jo Andersen

I became instantly fascinated with Tribal Bellydance when I first saw in 1995 and joined Mandala when it started in 2001.  I have taken a variety of movement classes since I was about 6, including ballet, ice skating, folk dancing, aerobics and yoga. I love teaching and look forward to seeing you in class!
